Age of Digital Interdependence: maximizing benefits and minimizing harms of digital technologies
Perspectives on the Report of UN’s High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation and on how to build an Inclusive and Human-centered Digital Future
The UN Technology & Innovation Lab (UNTIL), based at Aalto University, is partnering with the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs to host a session on Digital Cooperation.
The session will feature a keynote address delivered by Marina Kaljurand, MEP and Member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation.
The other panelist are:
– Dr. Eddine Sarroukh, Senior Advisor – Innovation & Technology, SDG Partnership Platform, UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, Nairobi, Kenya
– Smriti Parsheera, Fellow, National Institute of Public Finance & Policy, India
– Charlie Martial Ngounou, AfroLeadership & MyData Cameroon Hub
The session is moderated by Jarmo Sareva, Ambassador for Innovation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The goal of the session is to:
– highlight the Report of the landmark UN Panel co-chaired by Melinda Gates and Jack Ma;
– share experiences and views from the EU, China and India on how the Report can help get the policy right to support a human-centered data economy; and
– search for ways for greater collaboration around the use of data and development of ‘digital public goods’ to help accelerate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by enabling digital technologies to be used at scale.
The session will offer a peek into the current and future global agenda on digital cooperation. This can help companies better prepare for how they can build trust for a human-centered data economy. For governments, it will provide a useful backdrop for future dialogue on policy and regulatory framework at the global, regional and national levels. And for NGOs, the side event will offer ideas on how civil society might best support these processes.
The session offers debate with policy makers and learnings from experts, and demonstrates thought leadership. Participants will come away with learning and ideas, on how they can be more ethical and future-orientated.
