My expertise is in speech processing and telecommunication, where we have started recently to look into privacy related questions; How do people experience privacy in speech communication and how should technology relate to that? Our approach is user-centric; try to quantify how users feel in different scenarios and design speech user-interfaces to match that.
Before Aalto, I was a professor at the International Audio Laboratories Erlangen at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), Germany and a researcher at Fraunhofer IIS (2008-2016). The main research topic there was development of international standards for transmission and storage of speech and audio, for applications such as mobile telephony and broadcast media.
